Anantara Si Khao – Sea Grass planting to help the local Dugongs

Thailand’s southern province of Trang is home to one of the largest Dugong populations in South East Asia. This unique marine mammal often known as a sea cow or sea camel has a name that in Malay means the lady of the Sea. These days however it’s getting harder and harder to spot the unusual creatures as they become more and more endangered due to over fishing, hunting and the destruction of their natural habitat. Thanks to a special CSR project undertaken by the Anantara Si Khao Resort and a team of national park research staff, a sea grass-planting project off the shores of Trang is helping local efforts to rebuild the dugongs natural feeding grounds and hopefully increase the herd numbers.
