Pattaya’s largest Sailing Event – Top of the Gulf Regatta 2014

What truly makes the Top of the Gulf Regatta so large and so diverse is the vibrant mix of ages and racing classes that make up this event. From almost 150 tiny junior sailors in their Optimists, to sleek racing yachts, cruising boats, catamarans, windsurfers and fast edgy Platus, this regatta has it all. Ten years ago, when the regatta launched in 2005, I was here to cover the event. The man behind the event, yachtsman and boat builder Bill Gasson, had a vision for the sport in Pattaya. Ten years later, Bill Gasson says he is ready for a break but the sport of sailing is as vibrant as ever……
As the interest in sailing has grown in Thailand, so too has Pattaya’s Ocean Marina and today this venue is home to some of the Kingdom’s key sailing events. Local expat sailors, Thai crews, children of all nationalities and big sailing stars from the region continue to join in the action on the waves.
