Australian GT Rider (Golden Triangle Rider) founder David Unkovich, rides to Chiang Khong to experience its diverse ethnic culture and some of it’s dark history.
Chiang Khong is a small town located in the Chiang Rai Province, along the Mekong River. It’s primarily known as a border town, serving as a gateway between Thailand and Laos. One of the main attractions in Chiang Khong is the stunning view of the Mekong River and the mountainous landscapes on the other side in Laos.
The town itself has a laid-back atmosphere with a few guesthouses, restaurants, and shops catering to travelers crossing the border or exploring the northern region of Thailand. Visitors often use Chiang Khong as a starting point for journeys into Laos, especially to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Luang Prabang, accessible via a boat ride down the Mekong River.
