Phuket has surged in popularity as a prime investment destination for both local and foreign real estate buyers.
Condominiums and villas continue to appear on the horizon and now with so much development taking place, there is also a big push to ensure the growth is sustainable.
James Ed Spencer is the founder of the award winning PropertyStore Thailand, which is currently developing the Andaman Bay View Residences on the island.
James made it his mission to first secure Edge Green building certification.
EDGE, is an innovation of the International Finance Corporation (IFC), and is a green building certification system focused on making new residential and commercial buildings more resource-efficient.
Some of its global standards include a minimum projected reduction of 20% in energy use, water use, and embodied carbon in materials as bench-marked against a standard local building.
Andaman Bay View’s design team ensured the project has water saving systems, solar energy, sustainable materials and participates in a reforestation program with Tree Nation.
The Eco focus also includes charging points for electric cars and bikes and smart home systems in every unit that help manage power savings.
Going green is one thing. When it comes to property, its also about location.
In the case of Andaman Bay View Residences the choice of location – Chalong – is an area of Phuket that is well known to Thais and Expats but still a bit of a mystery to the world at large – that is unless your reasons to visit to Phuket are focused on health, fitness and wellness pursuits.
Chalong Bay is home to soi Ta-iad, one of the most famous streets in Phuket for Muay Thai boxing, firness, yoga and healthy cuisine.
Just steps from the new condo project, this location was key for James.
As a committed vegan he believes a property purchase is also about lifestyle.
Chalong is also home to Phuket’s famous Chalong temple, the awe-inspiring Big Buddha and the Chalong Pier. This nearby seaside spot is a mecca for seafood lovers and the main gateway to Phuket’s island hopping adventures.
There are 50 condos being built at Andaman Bay View Residences, ranging from 55 to 219 square meters.
A blend of East & West, the units feature Jim Thompson silk and other Thai fabrics along with innovative décor. One of the most unique room types is the dual key duplex which allows the owner to stay on one side and rent the other.
The project offers a huge rooftop infinity pool, bar, café and several green zones for relaxation.
The developer has also secured a partnership with UOB Bank and foreigners can apply for a mortgage.
So is Phuket real estate a good investment?
James believes his green initiatives are not just trends, but essential steps towards sustainable living on an island facing environmental pressures.
He says developers can’t afford to ignore the global push towards more sustainable construction.
Perhaps that’s the best definition of a good investment in the future of paradise.
