Located south of Samut Songkhram town at the mouth of the Mae Klong River, Don Hoi Lot is a top seaside holiday spot for the area’s locals and visiting Bangkokians. Don Hoi Lot is named after the tubular shellfish, also known as razor clams or worm shells. The area’s mudflats, fertile with mixed sediments of the Mae Klong River and the sea, make a perfect cradle for the shells which are endemic to the northern Gulf of Thailand. Low tides reveal the shells, allowing fishermen to dig them out, an activity visitors can join. If you aim for a shell mission, come between March and May, when they are in season.
