Chiang Mai is a popular city in mountainous northern Thailand. Whilst it is a major growing city, it has managed to retain a relaxed ambiance reminiscent of it’s early tourism days as a popular back-backing destination. Founded in 1296, it was capital of the independent Lanna Kingdom until 1558.
